Khushiyon Ka Tyohar – Nanhe Diyon Ke Saath !!
Was Conducted at Hope Child Development Centre, Chankapur on Saturday, Oct 22, 2016
iCARE team had an amazing pre-Diwali celebration with joyful and enthusiastic children of HCDC on Oct 22nd, 2016. The program involved more than 80 kids in the age group of 4 to 12 years. The main objective of the program was to educate the children about the Diwali festival, its relevance, Diya decoration, the safety and environmental consequences of using crackers and how they should be used judiciously.
iCARE team members reached the venue at around 1.15 pm and were happily received by the staff and the excited children. The team started with some quick interactions, fun activity and screened some short videos on Diwali.
Uday Suchak, one of the iCARE team members, very well explained the effects of crackers, noise and pollution during Diwali on health, environment & animals. Kids were highly motivated and they interestingly put forward their own thoughts and learnings on the topic as well. They were also made aware on the relevance of festival and better environment friendly alternative ways to celebrate it.
This activity was followed by a teaching session related to their academics. The children were divided in small groups according to their age, each mentored by a team member. Kids were encouraged to ask questions in the session. They asked questions on subjects like Maths, Science, Social, Marathi, English and were very happy to understand the concepts in a simplistic way, all thanks to the team.
Small kids were also taught some nursery rhymes with actions which they enjoyed a lot.
iCARE team also wanted the children to create something this Diwali, and hence initiated next activity as Diya Decoration, in which the children were provided crude Diyas, colours, brushes, decoration material and were demonstrated a few techniques with examples. They were then asked to decorate their own diya as per their imagination. It was to everybody’s surprise as they created very beautiful diyas, some of which were of commercial sorts being sold in the market. The team praised the talent of these little children and applauded their great efforts.
The activity concluded by distributing delicious Diwali sweets. The staff at HCDC also thanked iCARE team on behalf of the school and kids, expressing their gratitude.
